What are some job interview questions that help gage the honesty and work ethic of a prospective employee?
Q. The company I work for is looking to hire a new sales person. The qualities they really want to find is someone with a really good work ethic, who is very honest. I have heard of a "test" that some places use that poses questions to judge the honesty of an individual, but I don't remember what the test is called. Can anyone think of some questions that might be good to ask? Thanks in advance!

A. Ya... I took that test a long time ago when I went for a job with a diamond dealer. I forget what they called it too. I do remember some of the Q: They were: If you knew a coworker was stealing would you - Tell your manager... Talk to your coworker... Not say anything at all. - Have you ever called in sick and not been sick ? Do you think taking a couple of pens home from work is stealing ? If you knew a coworker was taking home a couple of pens would you - Tell your manager... Talk to your coworker... Not say anything at all. Do you lie ? Things like that...

Q. How do you distinguish between sincerity and honesty? Is honesty always the best policy? What about sincerity? Consider the following quote by Jean Giraudoux: "The secret of success is sincerity. Once you can fake that, you've got it made." How do these quotes resonate with you?

Why has honesty in a relationship become such a foreign concept?
Q. I have read countless questions on here, and in almost all cases simple honesty would fix their problem. Why has honesty become so difficult for people? Playing games in relationships leads to pain every time. I am at a loss as to why people can't see this.

A. Honesty in itself is hard to accept by most of us and when we do we almost always add something to it. You once ask a question of a man who wrote a poem and I believe it was "If you leave me questioning what cage or restriction you have on you ,than it was a good poem worth writing". The resriction was "Old Age" and the cage was "A retirement home"and the honesty was the end of time.:)

Is honesty in the list of endangered species?
Q. They say, 'Honesty is the best policy.' Sadly, it seems to be but a policy that hardly, if ever, gets implemented! Everywhere you look in the society, dishonesty seems to be ruling the roost. The cutthroat attitude of people is willing to sacrifice honesty in the altar of monetary gains. So, is honesty really heading the dinosaur's way?

How does one find a balance between tactfulness and honesty?
Q. The old saying is that the truth hurts. However, by being too tactful, the full meaning behind words can be lost. So how does one strike a balance between tactfulness and brutal honesty?
Asked by unknown - Mon May 3 00:23:37 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You have to tread with caution and consider their ages, character, health, level of honesty, etc. In some instances, you must know the person well to strike a balance. Some tragic things are best to be bluffed or left unsaid when dealing with the very young, or adults who are excessively emotional and sensitive. Delay information until a more appropriate time. Same thing with adopted kids, unreliable characters, etc.

How to put integrity, honesty, and values back into people?
Q. I recently misworded a question (I said morals instead of values) and it was perceived pretty roughtly. So I'll start fresh. How can we help Americans to gain back their integrity, honesty, and honor? Should parents be expecting more from their children, helping them out less? There is very clearly a lack of something in Americans. What do you think it is, and how do we get 'it' back?
Asked by Kaden's Mommy - Tue Dec 9 11:40:51 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Reparation...not gaining back...we can be better than we are. Parents and Society need to lead by example and also to prioritize child rearing above all else...it's the most important job in the world--being effective parents--we are creating our next generation and must do so with love, compassion and integrity; setting good examples to our children--and not to teach our kids that it's ok to negletcfully file children away while focusing on acquisition of material gain.

Do you believe in absolute honesty or is it ok to lie sometimes?
Q. My husband says absolute honesty, but we have discussed this in Philosophy class, and sometimes the truth is worse than a lie. I think that betrayal is worse than lying. What do you think?
Asked by kyeann - Wed Mar 21 11:34:47 2007 - - 19 Answers - 1 Comments

A. I believe in absolute honesty -- and, sometimes, I lie (usually "to not hurt another person's feelings). That said, consider this: by not being truthful to the other, isn't THAT more hurtful, whether or not they actually know they're being lied to? If you (or I) don't want to say something, rather than lying, can't we just say: I don't want to talk about it. That's certainly true, in my case! P.S. For me, betrayal is a form of lying. Both totally erode trust.

A. Tom is frequently dishonest and manipulative. If Tom couldn't coerce his friends into joining him on kooky adventures, they would never have happened. And if Injun Joe weren't so cunning, well, he wouldn't be much of a villain. By allowing these two manipulators to co-exist, Twain muddies the waters a bit. From Shmoop

What is the difference between rudeness and honesty?
Q. What is the difference between rudeness and honesty? For example, if someone walked in the room with a horrible haircut or an ugly outfit or some situation like that, would it be rude to tell them that it looks bad or would it be honest? And why? Wow, a lot of good answers. I can't choose one so I'll put it to vote. Thanks guys!
Asked by Riya D - Fri Jun 12 01:58:58 2009 - - 12 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Honesty is simply telling the truth. Rudeness is the thoughtless lack of consideration for others feelings, disassociation from societal morays and values, and an asocial perspective of interpersonal communication. Judgement of another is really a personal opinion isn't it. If a person were to walk into a room with a horrible haircut or an ugly outfit...wouldn't it still be honest to say: That's a very unique hairstyle; I'm not sure it's pleasing to me. or Your outfit is very different.

A. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Mark Twain (1835-1910) OK the river symbolizes freedom to Huck and Jim, agreed? Whoa, whoa, wait a sec! It s a bit more complicated than that after all, the river also directly causes a bunch of problems for our heroes. Freedom cannot cause problems, you may be thinking. But, err, it can just hear us out for a few more sentences. The river may be carrying Jim and Huck to freedom, but on the way, it creates a few obstacles. First, they encounter the burglars/potential-murder ers on the steamboat. While they re onboard, their own raft washes away down river. Dealing with that whole debacle is challenge number one. Next, the river carries Huck ashore, where he has that moral crisis over … [cont.]
